A Lamp That Grows...Absolutely Speechless!

By far one of the most amazing things I have seen in a while. Talk about design and science working together! Nature really is amazing.

The Hyphae Lamp is a new series of algorithmically generated lighting designs by Nervous System. Each lamp is individually grown through a process based on leaf vein formation. No two lamps are alike. Each lamp casts a unique pattern of branching shadows on the wall and ceiling, creating an ethereal and organic atmosphere. The lamps are 3D-printed to order in nylon and illuminated with eco-friendly LED lights. The first 10 lamps in the series will be available for purchase on July 11th.

Eco Friendly SPRING Cleaning

GONE are the days of Clorox, Ajax, Windex (anything ending in an "x" really) and many other harmful, harmful products to you, your household and the earth. I have personally always hated those products, well...and cleaning, but that's another story :). You have to open a window so you don't pass out and inhale harmful fumes! Yucky. Give them all a Mr. Yuck sticker!

We would like to start out the week with some eco-friendly, human-friendly, cruelty-free household products. While sometimes they may be a bit pricier, we can vouch it is worth the $1.00-$3.00 extra. Also, some of the websites have coupon offers:

Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Aromatheraputic Household Cleaners are to DIE for (especially the lavender scented products here.) They are made from natural ingredients, biodegradable, chemical free, cruelty-free, and great for anyone with allergies. You can read more here about their environmental and safety information.

Seventh Generation Products are wonderful also, our fave is the Natural All Purpose Cleaner- it smells great and works in the kitchen and bathroom. The Seventh Generation Free & Clear Products are great for anyone with allergies.

Dr. Bronners Magic "All-One!" Products are really wonderful. The Liquid Soaps are great because they are multi-purpose. Gentle enough to clean you body with them, but you can also scrub the tub with them. Our fave is the Almond Liquid Soap & Peppermint Liquid Soap. They are also great to add a few drops while taking a bath.

Design Tip fo the Week ~ Dark Wall Color for Your Bedroom

Don't shy away from using a dark wall color in your bedroom. Adding stark white contrasts make any dark room have a luxurious look that is both soothing and chic. Here are some dark color palette's to get you thinking about going dark!

Studio Bijoux ~ Jewels for Your Floor

the Owners/Designers at Studio Bijoux describe their gorgeous rug collection. They are an exclusive rug design studio based out of Palm Beach, Florida.

By far my favorite rug is Etage (shown above) - a glamorous hand tufted jewel, inspired by gold and platinum dipped slices of glowing Brazilian agate. How amazing would a clear crystal chandelier look above this?! It's definitely one of those pieces that EVERYONE will comment on when they walk into your home.

The Forge ~ Amazing Miami Landmark

When deciding where to have dinner for my sister Lindsey's bachelorette party down here in Miami, my friend Reniel who grew up here in Miami said of all places to go to, take her to The Forge. New Yorkers in Miami...watch out! It was quite an interesting weekend to say the least.

We got the private room (shown above) which was absolutely amazing. Luckily I told them it was a special event, so they set aside the room for us (no extra rental room charge, I liked that very MUCHO). The chandeliers in this room and throughout the whole restaurant were to die for, and so was the food. Check out the slideshow of photos of this breathtaking restaurant here.

Also if you check out the table, the waiter said it was actually made from one whole tree trunk. I just love the masculine wood table mixed with the feminine crystal chandeliers.

Sometimes you just have to save up and spend your night somewhere fancy. It's ALWAYS worth it! :)

Curb Appeal

Here is an amazing before and after transformation on a cape cod exterior that raised the curb appeal ten fold. By adding architectual features to the front of the house, changing the door to an eye catching red, replacing the garage door, and doing some landscaping it looks like a whole new house. Design Tip of the Week (2.7.11): Fill up some wall space

Do you have an empty wall, some pictures stuffed away in a box, and some time? Create a PICTURE COLLAGE! Its fun, its creative, and it gives your house guests something to stop and gander at. TIP: Hallways are a great place for picture collages; they usually need some love and nobody really spends much time there.

There are some tips for creating a tasteful collage, but generally, you really can be as creative as you want to be. Mainly, think outside the box and don't get weighed down by precision.

*Pick one thing that will be your unifying element. For example, you may want to use the same color matting or the same type of frame but in various sizes.

*If you have a hint of OCD lurking inside you, you may want to measure the distance between your frames. Two inches is a good rule of thumb for tighter collages without losing complete wall view.

*VERY IMPORTANT- think through your hanging pattern and lay it out on the floor BEFORE you start putting holes in the wall.

*Find your center and work off that picture. You will need a visual anchor, so start from the center and build around it.

*Use a level if you are doing uniform, parallel rows of pictures.

*A fun alternative to pictures are postcards.

Happy Friday everyone! I came across my bookmark of Dwell Homes. I used to get the magazine (I may have to subscribe again). I have been in love for years now with the look and style of modern prefab homes.

There is something about the open floor plans, large windows, sustainability and what kind of lot you put these homes on that has always been intriguing to me. They always feel very modern to me, yet warm and cozy at the same time.

Gone are the days where you think of the word prefab and you think of the word cheap, these homes are beautiful and some can be quite pricey. (Again depending on the lot you put them on as well).

Marmol Radziner Prefab has a whole collection of these homes. Another great thing about them is the cost and time to build than a traditional home is much less, which is great for your wallet.

We don't really have mountains here in Miami, but I'll take a beautiful modern prefab home with an ocean view! :)

Vintage keys are so interesting both in their design and what they symbolize. A key means access to something to locked away, its so wonderfully intriguing! Here are some fun key designs that you can bring into your decorating. And be sure to check out Wednesday's post for a DIY project using vintage keys.
