Design Tip of the Week (12.21.09): Find Your Inner Artist

DIY is our design tip of the week!

These handprint canvases are a great family tribute. Perfect for a kid's room or for the family room - have everyone in your family do one (even the pets). Create your own unique family tree! Stick with two colors or go for the rainbow. If you want to get this project started fast, there are handprint kits available like the one above from from Pearhead.

Go black and white for dramatic effect! This chic silhouette shared with us by P4D reader Michelle from DC. Inspired by Picasso's owl painting, Michelle took a large canvas, painted it black and painted a white silhouette of an owl. In her all white bedroom, this painting just pops.

A VERY easy DIY art project is just simply painting a canvas one color. Contrast is key because the color is the art in this project. Pick a color that will be the focal point of your room. Selecting a color that is not represented heavily in the room of choice is a great strategy for impact. An orange monochromatic painting is used in this BHG's photostream.
