Art Smart (4.29.10): Eco-friendly design is all in the Family
Rustic in build and modern in style,Modern Rust is a family owned and operated small business located in Virginia. The furniture they build is of their own design and it is made in small batches from recycled/waste lumber. Their designs often evolve, depending on their inventory of materials. Modern Rust pieces are solid wood, sturdy and very easy to move and re-assemble. Everything is made locally and from local materials. Co-owner of Modern Rust stated, "We love what we do, because we give new life to waste/recycled materials. We do most of the work ourselves in order to keep the cost down and to keep our green furniture affordable."
Modern Rust's Dining Room table design (you can have benches made for it too!)
Check out their online design gallery to see their collection of console tables, benches, coffee tables, and other great accent pieces.

Dandy Chandy Tuesday ~ Mini Disco!
I just found the cutest little dandy chandy that I may just have to order for my NEW MIAMI APARTMENT! YEAH! Check out this chandy from Goldenage.
I have a cute little art deco studio apartment with hardwood floors, and a seperate little dining room area I think this will look just perfect in. It's the right mix of old hollywood glamour just like the art deco building, but also looks fun and modern. Stay tuned for the final chandy I chose!
My fellow blogging P4D partner in crime Chrys has just bought a new home in DC, and I will have a new studio to decorate in Miami. Stay tuned for our many features on our tips and tricks of decorating, and what we are decorating our new homes with!!!!

Design Tip of the Week: (4.26.10) Sit at the Head of the Table
Adorn your dining room table with new head chairs! Its a great way to update your current dining set, change up your look or just add some elegance. Head chairs DO NOT have to match the rest of your set, so do some create mixing and matching. Get a rich upholstered chair with nail head trimming or a fun tall chair with a printed chair cover. Coordinate your fabrics with simple wood side chairs or benches. Get a chandy to top it off and you have yourself a new elegant dining area without having to get a whole new set.
Splurge on these Curved Upholstered Chairs from West Elm in Cocoa.
Pair these sleek modern chairs with a rustic bench like this one from Pottery Barn.
Or save your shekels with these black and white Curvature Dining Chairs from Target. TWO for $279 (yes that is correct)
Which would pair beautiful with black or white Windsor chairs, like these from Walmart (only $60 a pair if your in the market for a whole new set of chairs!)
Ikea also has a very inexpensive and versatile dining chair with a slip cover (great for keeping clean!). The Henriksdal chair has arms and is only $99.
Pair them with the Heritage Side Chairs from Overstock and put put a little chic into your country look.

Design Tip of the Week (4.19.10): A hint of the tropics
Currently, I am trying to achieve a beachy feel to my 100 year old house and looking for inspiration to achieve a light and airy feel of the beach without making the theme so obvious. Here are some inspirational ideas that I have been tapping into to share.
Last year P4D did a post on tropical chic and profiled my favorite hotel in the Dominican, Casa Colonial. The design of Casa Colonial is the perfect example of how to achieve a beach decor that is understated yet 100% tropical. This look transports you to a Caribbean paradise whether you are on an island or land locked. Casa Colonial is all white with mahogany details. Large green palm and banana leaves in clear glass cylinder vases are found througout the hotel with some orchids for a pop of color. Natural elements like sand, rocks and sea creatures (such as star fish and sand dollars) are subtly and strategically placed. Long sheer white curtains give the rooms a cool and airy feel.
Check out the full post for more pics!
We found some more inspiration from soHaute with beachy designs by Kelly Wearstler.

Art Smart ~ Lovely Typography
This Customizable Destination Bus Roll from HirondelleRustique's etsy store would make a great housewarming gift.
Vintage black and white prints were originally used on a roll to show the next destination for bus, tram and trolley stops. They've since become intriguing pieces of art and unique displays of personality for the home. Customize your own bus roll to show some of your favorite streets, places, or cities you would love to visit. Such a fun idea!
