A Lamp That Grows...Absolutely Speechless!

Growing a Hyphae Lamp from Nervous System on Vimeo.

By far one of the most amazing things I have seen in a while. Talk about design and science working together! Nature really is amazing.

The Hyphae Lamp is a new series of algorithmically generated lighting designs by Nervous System. Each lamp is individually grown through a process based on leaf vein formation. No two lamps are alike. Each lamp casts a unique pattern of branching shadows on the wall and ceiling, creating an ethereal and organic atmosphere. The lamps are 3D-printed to order in nylon and illuminated with eco-friendly LED lights. The first 10 lamps in the series will be available for purchase on July 11th.

Heimtextil - Trends - RECONNECT 2011/12

We are loooooving design and decorating videos on youtube, and will begin posting one every Wednesday. We will find a mix of just plain fun design/decorating videos to helpful DIY inspiration, etc...

This one above is from Heimtextil - an International trade fair for home and contract textiles in Frankfurt, Germany. Little Sidenote - Jen lived in Frankfurt, Germany from the age of 2-8 and is where her little sister Lindsey was born. :)

Here is a great description of this video, enjoy!:
In the 21st century, people want to be amazed, carried away and overwhelmed by ideas, sentiments and philosophies. They have a strong need to concern themselves with values, live in harmony with nature and be extremely authentic. A feel for the handcrafted reflects this just as much as the need to limit consumption voluntarily. In their show featuring the 2011/2012 Heimtextil Trend Reconnect in Frankfurt am Main, Caroline Till and Kate Franklin from British style agency, The Future Laboratory, demonstrate the effect this attitude towards life has on interior decorating trends and themes. The four Reconnect directions refer back to nature and roots in Sobriety, to culture, identity and tradition in Mix Mash. Utility recommits to real values and the art of craftsmanship and Wilderness to the essential, functional and everyday.
